Information for anyone living with tree nut allergies

Welcome to No Tree Nuts, the website dedicated to those living with tree nut allergies, especially parents with a tree nut-allergic child.

More than three million Americans are allergic to tree nuts and/or peanuts. (Figures for the number of people allergic exclusively to tree nuts are not available.) Tree nuts are among the eight foods that account for 90 percent of all food-allergic reactions in the U.S.

"Tree nuts" is the term used to refer to any nut that grows on a tree. Peanuts are not classified as a tree nut, because they grow in the ground and are actually a legume, rather than a nut. Some of the tree nuts most commonly found in foods today include pecans, walnuts, cashews, almonds and hazelnuts, among others.

Tree nut allergies are potentially life-threatening, rarely outgrown and appear to be on the rise. Nuts are often considered the food allergen that produces the most severe reaction.

As the mother of a young child with severe tree nut allergies, I will never forget how frightening it was when my daughter had a reaction, and then how overwhelming it was when she was diagnosed.

I had never been close to anyone with a food allergy before, so I had a lot to learn about what was happening and how to protect my child. I knew I had to educate myself so I could begin taking all the necessary precautions to make my daughter's environment as safe as possible.

Now, several years later, preventing accidental exposure to tree nuts is integral to everything our family does, but I'm still learning every day about foods and products to avoid. I created this website to help others, especially parents like myself, in keeping their children safe. Here, I've compiled the many resources that I've discovered in my journey to protect my tree nut-allergic child. I hope that this site will become a trusted destination for you when you need quick and easy access to valuable information.
